The Sewickley Music Club returns
After a short winter hiatus, the Sewickley Music Club kicks off its 2022 lineup by hosting the Pittsburgh Trombone Project as featured entertainment at 1:30 p.m. on March 8 at Sewickley Presbyterian Church.
The Pittsburgh Trombone Project quickly gained recognition as one of the leading chamber music ensembles in the United States. This trombone quartet has presented its diverse repertoire to audiences of all ages and in various venues across the country. The members of The Project are four of the leading independent trombonists in the Pittsburgh music scene: Bob Matchett, Chris Carson, Kevin M. McManus and James Nova.
The program will be followed by tea and the usual evening at Sewickley Music Clubs.

Registration for summer camp
The YMCA of Sewickley Valley offers weekly preschool summer programs for campers who have not yet completed kindergarten and are ages 3 and up. Preschool Day Camp offers arts and crafts, outdoor games, swimming, experiments, music and movement at Osborne Elementary School. Preschool day camp programs adhere to covid-19 regulations put in place by Pennsylvania State Child Care Licensing and the Department of Social Services. Senior Men’s Club
Affiliated with the Sewickley Valley YMCA, the Senior Men’s Club will have Rob Ree speak about Veterans Affairs on March 4 at the YMCA. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for an informal social gathering followed by the presentation at 10 a.m.
Additionally, State Representative Valerie Gaydos will speak on March 11, David Huffaker of the Port Authority will speak on March 18, and Tonya of Disabled Animal Recoveries will speak on March 25.
Fully vaccinated people are not required to wear a mask. Unvaccinated people are asked to wear a mask. For more information, visit smensclub.org.
Sewickley Public Library Events
The Sewickley Public Library at 500 Thorn St. is hosting Mother Goose on the Loose, a new storytelling program for babies and toddlers, on March 8 in the Community Hall.
There are three sessions, one from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., another from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and the third from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. free activity.
Registration is mandatory. Masks are also compulsory for anyone over the age of 2, regardless of their vaccination status. Call 412-741-0937 for more information.
The library will also host a card-making class from 1 to 3 p.m. on March 8 in the lecture hall.
Follow Nicole Steele’s step-by-step instructions to create three cards that can be sent for any event. Class size is limited to five and registration is required to secure card packs.

CARE Workshops
Start 2022 by signing up for one of Laughlin Children’s Center’s informative care workshops presented by Dr. Gail Mangan, a highly regarded adolescent psychologist.
CARE training includes an educational component and active practice for general use by adults who interact with children of all ages in a variety of settings. Adults who are clinicians will benefit from the training, as will those in positions such as receptionist, preschool teacher, child care provider, medical care provider, parent or foster parent.
CARE is hands-on, trauma-informed training for non-clinical adults. Care training emphasizes the principles taught in parent-child interaction therapy.
CARE uses the 3 Ps – Praise, Paraphrase, Emphasize – to connect with children and promote positive child-adult relationships. CARE training also contains techniques for giving children effective commands and a set of selective ignoring techniques to redirect problem behaviors. Here is the upcoming schedule:

Scholarship available
The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholars Program announces the availability of scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year. In recent years, the club has awarded at least eight scholarships of $5,000 each. High school students from Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, GED students, and those attending parochial, charter, and private schools are also eligible.
Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and must also complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.

Quaker Valley Kindergarten Enrollment
Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-23 school year in the Quaker Valley School District is open. Children must be 5 years old by September 1, 2022.
The registration form takes about 20 minutes to complete and is best done on a laptop or desktop computer.
Kindergarten registration is not the same as the Kindergarten Roundup, which is an event held in February. However, by completing the registration form, QVSD will have your contact details and will be in communication regarding KRU details.
Supporting documents are required to enroll your student. This includes a copy of birth certificate or passport, immunization records from the doctor’s office, and proof of residency – utility bill (gas, electric, water, or cable) and/or a current driver’s license from PA; if you are new to the area and do not have proof of residency, you can submit this information later.
You will have the option to submit some or all of the supporting documents as an attachment to the kindergarten registration form.
