Cinemark Movie Club surpasses one million members

MoviePass is dead, long live MoviePass.

The failed start that allowed moviegoers to see multiple movies a month for a flat-rate subscription was replaced by a movie theater chain’s own membership programs.

Cinemark, which operates Cinemark at the Louis Joliet Mall, recently hit the one million member mark with its Cinemark Movie Club.

The Plano, Texas-based chain plans to celebrate the milestone by giving away 1 million points, along with other promotions and events. An average of 3,000 people per theater signed up for the program, which costs $9.99 per month and covers a 2-D ticket, additional $9.99 tickets for members, deferrals, 20% off concessions and the ability to reserve seats and purchase tickets. in advance free of charge online.

Cinemark said customer satisfaction with the subscription program, which also has a platinum level with more benefits, topped 90% in surveys.

“Cinemark developed Movie Club by listening carefully to our moviegoers, and we were the first operator to launch a theatrical movie subscription offer in North America. Our unique program appeals to a wide range of moviegoers with rollover benefits and discounts on concessions that encourage members to visit more frequently while building loyalty to Cinemark,” said Sean Gamble, President and CEO of Cinemark. “Reaching the milestone of one million members reaffirms that our customers appreciate the exceptional benefits and unparalleled value proposition that Movie Club membership offers.”

The program encouraged members to visit Cinemark theaters three times more often than the average moviegoer, also encouraging them to visit the concession stand more frequently. Cinemark Movie Club members have already purchased 80 million tickets and 23 million bags of popcorn.
