Cinemark’s New Film Club Aims For MoviePass

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cinemark says “Take that, MoviePass!” with the launch of a new loyalty program.

For $8.99 per month, the Cinemark Movie Club includes a free movie ticket each month plus the ability to purchase additional tickets throughout the month for a discounted price of $8.99.

If unused, members can roll over their free ticket to the next month without it ever expiring. The plan also includes a 20% discount at the concession stand and no fees when purchasing advance tickets online.

“We are thrilled to launch our exclusive Cinema Membership Program which is entirely focused on consumer research,” Cinemark CEO Mark Zoradi said in a statement. “Based on the feedback we’ve received, we’ve designed Movie Club with all the features and benefits that moviegoers want most in a hassle-free membership program, allowing our guests to enjoy the movie-going experience. with their friends and family.”

The move is a direct response to MoviePass, which slashed its prices earlier this year, giving subscribers a free theatrical movie a day for $9.95 a month or $89.95 a year. The only caveat? Members can only purchase a ticket when ready to watch a movie and near the theater.

Cinemerk rivals Regal and AMC have offered rewards programs for years, but both are free and therefore don’t include a free movie.

Members can register now at, just in time for the release of highly anticipated films such as “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” on December 15 and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” on December 20.

Movie Club tickets and discounts can be used at Cinemark theaters in Valley View, Strongsville, Cuyahoga Falls and Aurora.
