LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) – Once a month, seniors in East Texas come together for a movie outing and to meet the food needs of their community.
It’s called the “Silver Screen Movie Club” in Longview.
This month the seniors gathered at the Longview ‘AMC’ 10.
“We’re skipping school today, girlfriends day,” said a club member.
It was the Elvis movie, and the price of admission was a donation of canned food.
“I love Elvis. I love Elvis. And helping out with the canning, too,” said movie buff Donna Kibodeaux.
Sponsored by the law firm ‘Goudarzi and Young’, people aged 55 and over can attend, many of whom are physically disabled.
“I had surgery in the middle of June and this is my first outing,” member Gloria Williams said.
“There are actually nursing homes that have brought people on buses and I’m so proud that we can do that, and we’re going to continue to do that,” said host Brent Goudarzi.
Many are happy that a day just for them is made possible.
“It’s an opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to our office,” says Goudarzi.
Shown on seven screens and each auditorium packed, they’re enjoying a day to have fun and do something to help others.
All food donations will go to local food pantries.
