GTA Soundsystem shares Buy Music Club playlist ahead of Lunchmeat Festival

Of all the Prague artists on this year’s Lunchmeat Festival lineup, GTA Soundsystem may have the least presence online, but, contradicting enough, the trio is a collection of some of the city’s best-known local artists. : Oliver Torr, David Herzig (aka Lotus Wash) and Aid Kid.

GTA Soundsystem is the live performance alias of these three musicians brought together, each bringing a distinct and creative approach to audio and sound design to the almost entirely improvised shows. Avoiding the genre and regimented musical models for the kind of fluid creativity that is only achievable through a deep understanding of their machines and a camaraderie that comes from true friendship.

Ahead of the world premiere of their audiovisual performance with a light design based on objects and atmospheres by visual artist Marek Šilpoch at Lunchmeat on Friday, Oliver Torr selected a few tracks from a Buy Music Club playlist for Inverted Audio, we taking a journey from personally inspiring artists also performing at the festival (notably from the Hyperdub label showcase) to more experimental picks from Slikback and Richard Youngs.

“My playlist is kind of a mix of things that inspire me in terms of sound design, with an emphasis on the Thursday lineup of the Lunchmeat Festival – the Hyperdub label has been pretty important to me in terms of inspiration. .

I’ve been using AYA’s Bandcamp as a secret weapon for my DJ sets for the past 2 years, for brain-melting montages and collages of everything from Oneohtrix Point-Never to ic3peak, so really excited to see their first AV with Sweatmother. And Loraine James’ album ‘Reflection’ hit me pretty hard, like it has a lot of other people… amazing stuff.

And, of course, Lee Gamble and Kode9, transforming the ‘dance music’ aesthetic into their own twisted fantasy, have always spearheaded the experimental approach to what makes you dance, when your mind dances. more than your feet. A special shout also goes to exael’s’Gothic cartoon‘for Boomkat’s Documenting Sound series, which is not available on Bandcamp.
