How This Bitcoin Movie Club Will Give New York Residents A Chance To Get BTC

the Bitcoin Movie Club (BMC) will release his next project NOISE, today January 27thand at the Angelika Film Center in New York. Directed by Jean-Louis Droulers, the film uses materials collected over five years to tell its story.

According to a press release shared with Bitcoinist, the director has gone through many iterations of the project. Conceived as an experiment, Droulers did not think of broadcasting it to the public. Zack Weiner and Joe Gallagher discovered the film and helped the director finish and release it.

Funded entirely with BTC by the Bitcoin Movie Club, viewers in New York will be able to purchase their tickets with the cryptocurrency. The project will also allow viewers to change their tickets to BTC. Thus, as the release claims, giving New Yorkers the ability to “buy Bitcoin with dollars over-the-counter” for the first time in the city.

NOISE was filmed with the intention of creating a “new language, capturing life without context, without any conception of what a film is”. In this sense, it is an example of cinematic material that tries to break with conventions, of “what the (film) industry demands”.

The team behind The Bitcoin Movie Club chatted exclusively with Bitcoinist on NOISE, funding a movie with BTC and their plans for the future. The project will work far from the concept of “crypto”, without “NFT”, only Bitcoin seems to drive them:

Bitcoinmovieclub will never do crypto, or anything NFT, instead we constantly bring movies to the Bitcoin economy for the simple reason that movie funding remains stagnant after over a century of innovation in all other aspects of filmmaking. This is what hurts in cinema. That’s why most people soured on contemporary Hollywood. It’s the money. Bitcoin is changing that very quickly. In fact, after NOiSE premieres on Thursday, the playbook will be simple. Shoot a film, sell it. For Bitcoin. BMC is not for profit.

Permission is dead, the vision behind the Bitcoin Movie Club

For decades, New York City has been the epicenter of counterculture art movements. Today, the city continues to prove its relevance as a major center for the arts, now associated with the power and freedom offered by the Bitcoin network.

The team behind the BMC is ready to fully embrace the potential of BTC and bring the film industry back to its ideals of decentralization, away from the interest of big studios and big corporations. Permission is dead, they told us, as they encourage its viewers to seize the opportunities offered by Bitcoin:

Distributing Bitcoin allows the filmmaker to circumvent licensing laws that expand the scope of their work. In the case of NOiSE, we’ve expanded the soundscape in a way that would never be available to an independent filmmaker through traditional distribution channels. You may not have a dollar, but you have Daft Punk. In an age of fragmented media, the Bitcoin community is the perfect group to collaborate with to create a truly independent, counter-cultural entertainment force. We are operating with a new economic reality and the decisions we allow ourselves to make have nothing to do with the limits that everyone is playing within.

The BCM was created according to a philosophy that its team calls “Bitcoinism”, as a marriage of “politics and entertainment”. The nonprofit organization believes in BTC as a way to “level the playing field as access.”

As Bitcoinist reported, BCM released “This Machine Greens,” a documentary that explores BTC’s energy consumption and its ability to support an energy system for future generations, and “Lynchpin,” a deep dive into the basketball industry. In 2023, they expect to release more projects and see “arthouse box office” measured by “BTC, not dollars.”
